AmCham Macau Independence Day Celebration

Macau, China, July 08, 2014 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Macau (AmCham Macau) hosted a barbecue cookout at the Galaxy Macau to celebrate the 238th Independence Day of the United States of America.

AmCham Macau Chairman Charles Choy expressed his gratitude towards the support by the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau, AmCham members and the American community residing in Macau. The 238th Anniversary of U.S. Independence also marks the historic occasion of the 225th Anniversary of the U.S. Constitution, which is the world’s oldest constitution.

Deputy Consul General Tom Cooney thanked MSAR Government and AmCham Macau for giving him the opportunity to celebrate this important day for the first time with fellow Americans in Macau.  Mr. Cooney has enjoyed his monthly visits to Macau since taking office last August and is excited to witness the remarkable developments of Macau. Carrying onwards, Mr. Cooney and his team will continue to work closely with the government to maintain the strong and productive relationship which has been firmly established with the Macau SAR Government by his predecessors. Prior to serving as Deputy Consul General in Hong Kong and Macau, Mr Cooney had served for two years as the State Department's Foreign Policy Advisor to the Commanding General of U.S. Army, Pacific Command, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The event was well attended by members and families of the American business community. AmCham Macau President Robert McBain hosted the evening’s lucky draw raffle with fabulous prizes donated by Galaxy Entertainment Group, Macau Beer, Macau Coca-Cola Beverage Co. Ltd, and The Patron Spirits Company and their Distributor, Telford International.  Mr. McBain has also announced that the AmCham Annual Dinner will be held this year on Saturday, December 6. More details will be released at a later date.
